Etymology
Βραχιόλι comes from the Byzantine diminutive βραχιόλιον, itself built on ancient βραχίων, meaning arm. Βραχίων in turn is tied to βραχύς, meaning short, since the word originally marked the upper arm as the shorter limb bone compared to the forearm. Over time the diminutive shifted from arm ornament to the modern sense of bracelet.
