Etymology
Διαφήμιση is the noun form of the verb διαφημίζω, built from διά- ("through, throughout") and φήμη ("rumor, reputation, fame"), which comes from φημί ("to say, speak"). In ancient use the verb meant to spread word about something or make it widely known. Modern Greek added the noun suffix -ση to name the result: the act or product of publicizing something.
