Etymology
Τρίχα descends from the Ancient Greek noun θρίξ, with stem τριχ- (genitive τριχός), meaning hair. The stem τριχ- survived through the Koine and Byzantine periods and was reshaped into the modern first-declension feminine noun τρίχα. The origin of θρίξ itself is not securely traced to a known Indo-European root; several scholars treat it as a word of unclear, possibly pre-Greek, origin.
