Etymology
Εκατό comes from Ancient Greek ἑκατόν (hekatón), meaning a hundred. That form goes back to the Proto-Indo-European word for hundred. Over time the final -ν dropped in spoken Greek, giving the modern form εκατό. The word has stayed the ordinary term for the number across the history of the language.
