Etymology
Εξακολουθώ is built from the prefix εξ- (out of, thoroughly) added to ακολουθώ, the everyday verb for 'to follow'. Ακολουθώ itself comes from the adjective ακόλουθος, 'one who follows,' formed from the copulative prefix α- (together) and κέλευθος, an old word for 'path' or 'road.' The origin of κέλευθος is not securely established, so no reliable Indo-European root can be given for it.
