Etymology
Επισκέπτομαι comes from Ancient Greek επισκέπτομαι, a compound of the prefix επί ("upon, at") and the verb σκέπτομαι ("to look at, consider, examine"). The original sense was to look in on someone or something, which narrowed over time to the modern meaning of paying a visit. The verb keeps the deponent middle-voice endings of its ancient ancestor even though its meaning is active.
