Etymology
The word joins the prefix εὖ, meaning well or good, with χάρις, meaning grace or favor. In Ancient Greek the compound εὐχάριστος first meant grateful or thankful. Modern Greek shifted the sense toward pleasant or enjoyable, the quality of giving pleasure rather than the act of feeling grateful. The old sense survives in ευχαριστώ, the everyday verb for thank you.
