Etymology
Modern κάνω descends from ancient κάμνω, which meant to toil or to achieve something through labor. Over time the sense widened from working hard to simply doing or making, and the verb lost its nasal infix in casual speech, giving the modern form. It is now one of the most frequent verbs in the language, used both literally and in dozens of fixed expressions.
