Etymology

Κλεμμένος is the passive participle of κλέβω, the Modern Greek descendant of Ancient Greek κλέπτω, meaning to steal. The root klep- goes back to a Proto-Indo-European base meaning to steal or conceal. The suffix -μένος marks a perfect passive participle, so the word literally means having been stolen.
