Etymology
Τραπεζαρία is built on τράπεζα, the Greek word for table, plus the suffix -αρία, which marks a room or place. Τράπεζα itself goes back to ancient τετράπεζα, meaning four-footed, from τετρα- (four) and πέζα (foot). The foot element ties the word to the wider Greek family that gave us πούς and ποδός, both meaning foot.
