Etymology
Κυνηγιέμαι is the passive voice of κυνηγώ (κυνηγάω), which goes back to ancient κυνηγέω, a compound of κύων (dog, stem κυν-) and the verbal root of ἄγω (to lead, drive). The original sense was literal: to lead dogs, that is, to hunt with hounds. The passive form flips the perspective from the hunter's action to the target's experience, giving the sense of being hunted or pursued.
