Etymology
κυρίως is the adverb formed from the adjective κύριος ('principal, main; valid; lord, master') with the productive adverbial suffix -ως. κύριος itself derives from κῦρος ('supreme power, authority, validity'). The sense thus moved from 'in the authoritative/principal way' to 'mainly, properly speaking'.
