λήψη is the modern form of ancient Greek λῆψις, a verbal (action) noun built on λαμβάνω 'to take, receive, grasp'. It denotes the act or result of taking or receiving. The noun is formed from the verb's perfective stem ληβ-/ληφ- plus the deverbal suffix -σις (modern -η). The deeper pre-Greek origin of λαμβάνω is uncertain and has no securely established Indo-European cognates.
