Etymology
παραδοσιακός is derived from the noun παράδοση ('tradition') with the relational adjectival suffix -ιακός. παράδοση in turn comes from the verb παραδίδω ('to hand over, hand down'), composed of the prefix παρα- ('over, along') and δίδωμι ('to give'). The adjective therefore literally denotes that which 'pertains to what is handed down' — i.e. traditional.
