Μεθαύριο is a fusion of μετά (after) and αύριο (tomorrow). In the merger, the final vowel of μετά drops and the tau becomes a theta, an old sound change that happened before words that once started with a rough breathing. The same shift shows up in μεθαύριο's older cousin words built from μετά plus an aspirated vowel.
