Etymology
μοιράζω is built on the noun μοίρα, meaning portion, share, or fate, with the verb-forming suffix -άζω. μοίρα itself goes back to μείρομαι, to receive as one's share, from a Proto-Indo-European root meaning to allot or assign. The word kept both senses in Greek: practical division of goods and the fixed share allotted by fate.
