Etymology
Μελέτη comes from Ancient Greek, where it meant care, attention, or practice, and it is tied to the verb μελετάω, to practice or attend to something. In Attic rhetoric a meletē was a specific genre: a practice speech or declamation that students composed to train their oratory. The word's root sense of repeated, deliberate effort survived into Modern Greek, where it now covers both everyday studying and formal written reports.
