Etymology
Παραγωγός comes from the verb παράγω, which joins the prefix παρά (alongside, forth) to άγω (to lead). The agent-noun suffix -ός turns 'to lead forth' into 'one who leads forth', and by extension, one who produces. The same -αγωγός pattern shows up in παιδαγωγός (pedagogue, literally 'child-leader') and χορηγός (sponsor). The root άγω goes back to the Proto-Indo-European root for driving or leading.
