Συγχώρεση is a deverbal noun from συγχωρώ, built from the prefix συν- (together, with) and χωρώ (to give way, to make room). The original sense was to yield space to someone or grant them room, which shifted to granting pardon or letting an offense go. The noun form with the -ση suffix names the act itself, much like ancient συγχώρησις.
