Etymology
Παρηγοριά comes from the verb παρηγορώ, to console or soothe. That verb is built from the prefix παρα- (beside, alongside) and a root related to ἀγορεύω, to speak in public, itself tied to ἀγορά, the public assembly or marketplace. The core image is someone speaking beside a suffering person to ease their pain. The noun suffix -ιά turns the verb into an abstract noun naming the result: the comfort given.
