Etymology
Παρτίδα entered Greek from Italian partita, the feminine past participle of partire, to divide or set out. The Italian word itself traces to Latin pars, partis, meaning part or share. Greek borrowed it in the sense of a round of a game and, separately, a divided lot of goods, both readings following the original idea of a portion split off from a whole.
