Etymology
The word joins the adverbial prefix ξανά, meaning again, with the mediopassive form of βλέπω, meaning to see. The prefix goes back to ancient ἐξ ἀνά, roughly out and up again, worn down over time into the single word ξανά. The verb βλέπω itself has no settled Indo-European ancestry; most etymologists treat it as a pre-Greek borrowing rather than an inherited root.
