Etymology
Πλεονέκτημα comes from the verb πλεονεκτέω, a compound of πλέον ("more") and the root of έχειν ("to have, hold"). It once meant simply "having more than others," and over time settled into the neutral sense of "advantage." The suffix -μα marks it as the result of an action, so it names the thing gained rather than the act of gaining it.
