Etymology
Προσδοκία comes from the verb προσδοκώ, expect or look forward to. That verb combines the prefix προσ-, meaning toward or in addition, with δοκέω, to think, suppose, or seem. The abstract noun suffix -ία turns the verb's sense into a state: the condition of looking toward something in one's mind.
