Etymology
Modern Greek σε traces back to the Ancient Greek preposition εἰς, meaning "into" or "to." In Byzantine and Medieval Greek, εἰς gradually took over the territory of the older preposition ἐν ("in"), and the two senses merged into one word that could mark both motion toward a place and simple location. The result is the single, all-purpose modern preposition σε, always followed by the accusative case.
