Etymology
Σοκολάτα is a loanword, not a native Greek formation. It entered Greek from French chocolat, which came from Spanish chocolate. The Spanish word derives from Nahuatl xocolātl, the Aztec term for a bitter cacao drink. Greek simply adapted the sound of the French word and added a native feminine ending.
