ψηλός is the Modern Greek everyday word for 'tall, high'. It descends from Ancient Greek ὑψηλός (hypsēlós) 'high, lofty', built on ὕψος (hýpsos) 'height'. The unstressed initial υ- was lost through aphaeresis, giving (υ)ψηλός → ψηλός, while the learned doublet υψηλός survives in formal and abstract uses.
