Etymology
Derived from the verb διαταράσσω/διαταράττω 'to disturb thoroughly, throw into confusion', formed with the prefix δια- 'through, thoroughly' added to ταράσσω 'to stir up, agitate, trouble'. The base noun ταραχή means 'disturbance, turmoil'. The deeper origin of ταράσσω is uncertain and is widely regarded as Pre-Greek, so no secure Indo-European root can be assigned.
