Etymology
Începe comes from the Latin verb incipere, built from in- (into) and capere (to take, to seize). Romanian kept this verb directly from spoken Latin, unlike Italian or Spanish, which replaced it with other roots for everyday use. The Latin root survives in those languages mainly in the learned term incipit, used for the opening words of a text.
