Etymology
Romanian "prin" comes from a fusion of the Latin prepositions "per" (through) and "in" (in). Vulgar Latin speakers in the region that became Romania merged the two into one word, giving a preposition that covers both physical passage and abstract means. The same Latin "per" also gave Romanian "pe" through a separate line of sound change, so the two words are historical relatives with different modern jobs.
