Etymology
Grijă entered Romanian from South Slavic, most likely Bulgarian, rather than from Latin. It shows the same root as Bulgarian griža, meaning worry or care. The word settled into everyday Romanian speech, and it later spawned its own native verb, îngriji, built by adding a prefix and a verb ending onto the noun.
