Etymology

Abordare is the action noun of the verb a aborda, which Romanian borrowed from French aborder during the wave of French-influenced modernization in the 19th century. French aborder itself meant to reach the side of a ship, from the phrase à bord, board. Romanian kept the nautical sense in specialized contexts but extended it mainly to the figurative meaning of approaching or tackling a problem.
