Etymology
Romanian borrowed "acorda" from French "accorder" in the 19th century, during a period when scholars deliberately imported French and Latin vocabulary to modernize the language. The French verb goes back to Latin "accordare", built from "ad-" (toward) and "cor, cordis" (heart), so the root idea is bringing things into harmony, like two hearts beating together. That sense split into two everyday uses: granting something to someone, and tuning an instrument so its notes agree.
