Word family
Etymology
Altcineva is a Romanian compound built from two older words. Alt comes from Latin alter, meaning "other", and cineva is itself made of cine ("who", from Latin quis) plus the indefinite particle -va. Put together, the pieces literally mean "other + someone", which settled into the single sense "someone else". The compound is native to Romanian and not a direct borrowing.
