Etymology
Altceva is a compound of alt, meaning other, and ceva, meaning something. Alt descends from Latin alter, other of two. Ceva itself formed in old Romanian from the interrogative ce, what, fused with va, a leftover future-tense marker meaning will. Speakers welded alt and ceva into one word to mean a different thing than what was just named.
