Etymology
Odată is a fusion of the Romanian numeral o ("one", feminine) and the noun dată ("time, occurrence"), literally "a given [point]". Dată comes from Latin data, the feminine past participle of dare, "to give". The literal meaning "one time" broadened over time to "once upon a time" and to the emphatic "for once, already" heard with commands.
