Etymology
Amesteca descends from Vulgar Latin ammixticare, a frequentative verb built on mixtus, the past participle of miscere, "to mix." Romanian kept the verb's Latin core largely intact, while Western Romance languages took separate paths from a related form, misculare. The initial a- reflects the Latin prefix ad-, worn down over centuries of spoken use until it fused permanently onto the root.
