Etymology
Beau is a present-tense form of the verb a bea, "to drink," which Romanian inherited from Latin bibere. Over time the intervocalic b dropped in most forms, leaving the short stem bea while beau kept an old irregular ending shared by the first-person singular and third-person plural. Its Romance siblings, such as Italian bere and French boire, come from the same Latin verb.
