Etymology
Romanian "biblie" comes from French "bible", which goes back to Late Latin "biblia". Latin took the word from Greek "τὰ βιβλία" (ta biblia), meaning "the books", the plural of "βιβλίον" (biblion), "book" or "scroll". That Greek word is a diminutive of "βύβλος" (byblos), the term for papyrus, itself linked to the Phoenician port city of Byblos, a major papyrus exporter.
