Etymology
Bibliotecă entered Romanian from French bibliothèque, itself from Latin bibliotheca and ultimately Greek bibliothēkē. The Greek word is a compound of biblion, meaning book, and thēkē, meaning a case or place where something is stored. So the word literally meant a book-repository long before it named the physical building we know today.
