Etymology
Romanian borrowed "moral" from French. French first used "moral" as an adjective, from Latin "moralis" (pertaining to custom or conduct), itself built on "mos, moris" (custom, habit). French speakers later turned the adjective into a noun, "le moral", meaning a person's state of mind or spirit, and Romanian took over that same noun sense. The origin of Latin "mos" itself is disputed among etymologists, so no secure Indo-European root can be given.
