Etymology

Categoric entered Romanian in the nineteenth century as part of the wave of French and Latin borrowings that modernized the language. It comes from French catégorique, itself from Late Latin categoricus and ultimately Greek katēgorikós, tied to katēgoria (accusation, predication, category). The Greek verb katēgorein meant to speak against someone in public, built from kata- (down, against) and agoreuein (to speak in the assembly).
