Etymology
Că comes from Latin quia, a conjunction meaning 'because' or 'that'. Quia itself is built on the old interrogative and relative pronoun stem that also produced quis and quid. Romanian kept this word as its main tool for introducing subordinate clauses, a role so basic to grammar that the word has barely changed in over a thousand years.
