Etymology

"Căutați" is the second-person plural (and imperative) form of "a căuta," the Romanian verb for searching or looking for something. The verb comes from Latin "cogitare," which meant "to think" or "to consider." In the Romanian branch of spoken Latin, the sense shifted from thinking about something to actively searching for it, a change that did not happen in most other Romance languages. "Cogitare" itself is built from "co-" (together) plus "agitare," a frequentative form of "agere," meaning "to drive" or "to do."
