Etymology
Romanian borrowed cabană from French cabane in the 19th century, during a period when Romanian absorbed many French words as part of its modernization. French cabane goes back to Old Occitan cabana, from Late Latin capanna, meaning hut or cottage. The origin of capanna itself is obscure and possibly pre-Roman, so no secure Indo-European root can be traced further back.
