Etymology

Romanian borrowed "umor" in the nineteenth century from French "humour", part of a wave of French-derived vocabulary that entered Romanian during its modernization. French "humour" itself came from English "humour", which traces back to Latin "umor" (fluid, moisture). The link runs through medieval medicine, where four bodily fluids, or humors, were believed to shape a person's temperament and mood.
