Etymology

Anunțat is the past participle of a anunța, to announce. Romanian borrowed the verb from French annoncer during the nineteenth-century push to re-Latinize the language, and the form was reinforced by the older Latin annuntiare. That Latin verb combines ad- (toward) with nuntiare (to report), from nuntius, a messenger.
