Etymology
The verb a datora comes from the Romanian adjective and noun dator, meaning indebted or debtor. Dator in turn descends from the Latin agent noun dator, datoris, which originally meant giver, from the verb dare, to give. Romanian narrowed the sense: the one who has received something and must give it back became the one who owes. The infinitive suffix -a then turned the noun dator into a first-conjugation verb.
