Etymology

Care descends from the Latin adjective qualis, meaning 'of what kind' or 'such as'. In spoken Latin this word gradually took over the job of the classical relative pronoun qui, quae, quod. Romanian kept only the stripped-down form care for all genders and both numbers in the basic case, which is why it looks so simple today next to its Romance cousins.
