Etymology
Fiecare is a native Romanian compound built from fie, a subjunctive form of a fi ("to be"), and care ("which, who"). Together they read literally as "be it which," a way of saying "whichever one it may be," which settled into the meaning "each, every one." The pattern is the same one that built oricare ("whichever") and oricine ("whoever") from ori- plus an interrogative pronoun.
